Today’s early-morning livestream marked another practical and down-to-earth session of the CV and Cover Letter Clinic, a series I run whenever viewers ask for help with job applications. The structure remains simple but effective: I begin the stream slightly before 4 AM GMT on TikTok as @careeradviceuk, taking questions from those who join early. Just after the hour, the clinic officially starts, followed by a 30-minute presentation and time for additional questions at the end.
This morning’s topic focused on the basics of writing a CV and the fundamentals of a cover letter—an area many job seekers find confusing, especially when creating their first CV or trying to update a CV after leaving a role. The clinic is designed for two main groups:
- New job seekers, often graduates or individuals entering the workforce for the first time, who worry about having “no paid experience.”
- People refreshing an existing CV, whether due to an upcoming career change or the natural end of a job.
During the presentation, we explored where most applicants should begin: the About Me section. This brief personal summary is one of the most common stumbling blocks. To offer a quick glimpse, I shared a short highlight clip—about two minutes—now available for replay on YouTube or watch the below video.
